Snapchat is Black Friday ready – new channel for…

With the beginning of the Christmas shopping season approaching, there’s no doubt that ecommerce stores will be flooded with deals. Exploiting this opportunity, Snapchat has launched its first ever dedicated shopping channel, allowing users to browse deals from selected brands and shop exclusive offers within the app.

“Shop and Cop”, Snaphat’s new dedicated shopping channel, will sit on Discover. Snapchat announced that the feature will have “everything from exclusive drops to unique offers”. The deals will have a time limit and Snapchat will be boosting awareness and engagement for the brands and offers by promoting them to users. Users will not have to leave the app to get the deals.

Snapchat has partnered with Shopify to fulfil this service. Snapchat will be curating the brands and offers within the channel and Shopify will be managing the actual buying process.

The move is one amongst many of Snapchat’s most recent ecommerce efforts, including Shoppable Snap Ads and Product Catalogs, currently rolling out to advertisers through Snapchat’s self service ad platform. In another recent ecommerce partnership, Snapchat and Amazon have aligned to bring a “visual search” tool. The tool will allow users to use Snapchat’s camera app to find items to shop within Amazon’s inventory.

Google Favours Mobile Friendly Websites

Google have announced that they have started indexing and ranking pages on their search engine based on the mobile versions of websites rather than desktops. This change may not seem like a big deal for a regular user but for a brand, this is something that needs to be taken into consideration especially if Google view mobile versions as more in sync with the current browsing trend. Google stated in 2015 that mobile searches had overtaken desktop searches in certain parts of the world and the trend has continued to the present but on a more global scale. Google started experimenting a year and half ago with mobile-first indexing to help majority of mobile users find what they’re looking for. Mobile friendliness has always played a part in how Google ranks web pages in their search engines. For example, pages that are mobile friendly will rank higher in mobile searches rather than websites that are not. Google has a single index that will support both mobile and desktop searches but websites that only have desktop versions will continue to be included in the Google’s index based on their desktop sites. If your website is not quite mobile friendly, do not fear as content gathered through mobile-first indexing will have no ranking advantage over content that’s not gathered in this way yet. But this is an indication to make sure that your website is mobile friendly as it will only enhance your visibility in search results especially if most of your customers are using mobile or tablets to acquire your product/services. Also, it is important to ensure that the loading speed of your pages meet Google’s criteria as it will be a major factor in your search ranking results for both mobile and desktop websites. Top Tips for Establishing Your Brand on Instagram

Instagram is currently the leading social media platform when it comes to social media marketing and with over 400 million users, it’s a great foundation to market your brand/business as the app is very user friendly and your potential customer can make instant purchases with a few taps. To begin, you will need to develop a following and implement an ongoing strategy to achieve any level of success. But have no fear, as we will walk you through the different ways you can build your brand’s presence and obtain more Instagram followers. Invite your friends and family After you’ve created your Instagram account, invite your friends and family members to follow you. This is a good first step to take as your friends and family would show their support by following, liking and commenting on your posts. This will look authentic to a new visitor who will identify that you have a following. Introduce Yourself As a new brand, it is important to introduce yourself and present the type of service you are providing. As there is a lot of competition on Instagram, it is important to differentiate yourself and illustrate what sets you apart from the rest. You will need to have a strategy in mind about the type of followers you would like to target and cater to their needs by posting unique images, videos and writing captions that will grab their attention and start engagement. Make sure you write a short and sweet informative bio on your profile and add a link to your website. Use hashtags Hashtags is a great way for people to find you and start conversations. But don’t get too carried away with inserting a high volume of hashtags on a single post as it could appear as spam and result to losing interest from a potential customer. Instagram has also recently added a new feature which allows users to follow popular hashtags. As such, by incorporating popular hashtags around your product and target audience’s interest, you will automatically appear in user feeds, increasing your reach. Interact with people It’s important to interact with people, by both acknowledging and responding to comments on your posts, as well as engaging with any potential relevant influencer accounts. Interaction can be anything from a follow, to a like and comment, though comments will be most appreciated and get you noticed. This will also help add a personality to your profile which people will warm to very quickly and become loyal to your brand. Collaborate with Influencers This is a very powerful method to promote your brand. There’s various ways in which you can collaborate with influencers, to drive a high volume of traffic to your profile and result in potential sales. But before you approach influencers, it is important to have a strategy in mind and ask yourself these questions – why are you approaching this influencer? Do they fit your brand guidelines? Will your target audience relate or build a connection with the influencer? What authority does the influencer carry? Also, some influencers would request for free products to showcase your brand so ensure that you have calculated production costs and decide if this method is worthwhile. Types of engagement To keep your followers engaged, you will need to come up with creative ways to build engagement other than posting an image or video. So why not entice your followers with a photo competition where they can post an image and tag your brand with a unique hashtag. This will also help generate user generated content, that you can repurpose. This method should increase engagement on your page and you can provide a special discount code for the best images, which will provide more of an incentive for more people to join in with the fun. Trial and error When it comes to posting images and videos, there is a trial and error process as you may not be receiving the engagement you had expected. But this doesn’t necessary mean that the image/video is not of good quality. There can be many factors to consider; hashtags, location tag, caption, time of posting etc. Research conducted by Kissmetrics suggests that the best time to post is 2am, 6am, 5pm and 10pm and the best day is Wednesday and Thursday. There is no right or wrong with this process, so the best thing is to experiment yourself by posting at different days/times and analyse the results to identify the engagement rate. Paid promotions Paid promotions are becoming a common feature on all social media platforms, so this can be a route to take in order to gain more exposure for your brand. The advantage of using paid promotions is that you can get your brand and content in front of a higher volume of your target audience. By selecting your target audience, you will give them the opportunity to engage with your brand. If they like your post, there’s a strong possibility that they will follow you as they have shown interest in your brand on their own accord. But Instagram’s paid promotions are based on CPM (cost per impression i.e. the number of people who see your post, regardless of whether they take an action or not) so make sure you define your target audience and budget accordingly. Instagram is becoming a very popular platform for brands and rightly so as it allows you to attract new customers and connect with enthusiasts who show high levels of engagement. Like anything in business, it takes time to build a foundation but once you have a following and the right core audience, you will begin to reap the benefits of an engaged audience. Thereon up, the key is regular content and staying socially active.

5 Social Activation Ideas to Get Your Followers Engaged

As digital marketers, we fully understand the depth of opportunities that are available in social media marketing. Yet, we still find ourselves scratching our heads for creative campaign ideas and often go no further than simply posting regular content. So, we’re here to save the day and present 5 great ideas that will get your audience engaged, build your brand advocacy and increase your exposure. 1. Surprise and Delight Everyone loves a treat and this small gesture can brighten up someone’s day, which is why Surprise and Delight campaigns work so well. There are so many creative ways to execute them, from targeting the general social media user to an influencer. For maximum returns, be sure to pick users who complement your core target audience and are likely to become strong brand advocates. It will, of course, help if they have an engaged user base, but sometimes picking (relevant) users at random can make the general audience feel more special, and less differentiated. 2. Using art for Instagram exposure If there’s one thing for certain about the modern-day smartphone user, it’s that they love capturing the moment. So, use this to your advantage, especially if you have access to outdoor space (legally or with permissions of course). Make the most of your outside space and get passers-by engaged with an irresistible arty exterior. Make sure you have a strong plan and strategy in place, starting with a dedicated hashtag, and possibly even getting the campaign kicked off with a few micro-influencers. This tactic will work best for restaurants and bars, gyms, spas, studios and retail boutiques. 3. Giveaways Giveaways can significantly help grow your following in a short space of time and build brand engagement on your social channels. Partner up with a non-competing brand that complements your business to offer a prize package of your most popular products. You can even run a contest to encourage virality. Make sure you have a goal in mind, whether it’s to increase your following, capturing user data or even user generated content. This brings us on to… 4. User generated content (UGC) Running campaigns to gather user generated content, is not only great for engagement, but can also help aesthetically enhance your social feeds and provide you with reusable content in the long run. Get your audience involved and excited with discount codes in exchange for UGC. This will not only result in content that you can repurpose, but can also help persuade your followers to become customers. 5. Influencer marketing Partner up with a relevant influencer reflective of your brand, with a large following in your target market. Together, you can run a live stream consisting of an activity, such as unboxing of a new product. You can also run a social media takeover, where the influencer posts on your channel for a day, and shows a ‘life in the day’ segment. But if this isn’t in line with your business, then why not use this partnership as an opportunity to gather reusable content from the influencer, or simply send them products to test and review with their followers. Whichever one of our campaign ideas you decide to implement, be sure to have a goal, plan and strategy in place so you make the most of it.
